Behaviour scales can be used to visually display an individual’s emotions or level of stress. When creating a scale, use clearly defined and observable behaviours (e.g. throwing items, yelling) to ensure consistency.
Being able to identify each stage of stress would allow us to:
- identify the earliest behavioural signs of stress
- use behviour strategies to provide support before the individual escalates to a crisis point
- help the individual return to a calm state faster
